Indonesian fishing trawler "WEILAI-LANKA" anchored in the fisheries harbour in Modera in Colombo caught fire Wednesday afternoon around 3.15 p.m. Sixteen Indonesian crew were in the vessel at that time, and all members of the crew were rescued unhurt, naval sources said.

The trawler was immediately moved out of the fisheries harbour to the outer harbour. At that time there were about 25 trawlers in the Modera fisheries harbour.

However the trawler was completely burnt as all measures taken to extinguish the fire failed.

The fire was due to mechanical defect, naval sources said.
