Grenade attack on Batticaloa police sentry

Unidentified gunmen hurled a hand grenade at the Sri Lanka police sentry point located in Iruthayapuram along the Batticaloa-Trincomalee road at around 4:45 p.m, Friday, security sources said. Four police officers engaged in security duty at the time fired indiscriminately after the attack, local witnesses said. No one was injured in the incident, Batticaloa police said.

Traffic to and from Batticaloa town was blocked for more than half an hour along the main Batticaloa-Trincomalee road, traders in Batticalos town said.

Iruthayapuram is located 1 kilometre north of Batticaloa town.
