Five soldiers injured in explosion

Five Sri Lanka Army (SLA) personnel were injured when the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) detonated a landmine at Sirrupitty, in Neerveli, 15-km northeast of Jaffna at 12:20 p.m. on Friday, said sources in Jaffna.

The soldiers were traveling in a tractor on the Jaffna Pt. Pedro road when this happened.

Traffic on the road was halted for three hours following the incident, said sources.

The body of Gopal Emil Nona of Kachchai in Chavakachcheri, 10 km south of Jaffna was recovered from scrub jungle on Friday in a decomposed state, said sources in Jaffna.
