Homeguards critically wound civilian

Kanthiah Kulanthaivel (45), was critically injured when homeguards at a on a small by road at Ariyampathy, eight km south of Batticaloa, opened fire as he stepped out of his home around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, said sources in Batticaloa.

He has since been admitted to the intensive care unit of the Batticaloa Hospital, but is not expected to survive.

He was first admitted to Ariyampathy by members of the Tamil Eelam Liberation Organisation (TELO), before being transferred to the Batticaloa Hospital. A TELO member had said that homeguards at the guard post were Muslim, sources added.
