SLA shelling hits ambulance, one killed

One person was killed when an ambulance bound for Trincomalee town from Muttur was hit by artillery shell fired by Sri Lanka Army, around 4 p.m., Sunday. The ambulance was badly damaged in the incident which occured at 64th mile-post, near Pachchanoor, along Muttur-Batticaloa road, initial reports from the area said.

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) renewed its artillery fire towards Muttur east and Eachchilampathu division from military installations in Trincomalee from Sunday evening around 4 p.m.

At least three multi-barrel salvos of 12 to 16 rockets, and several shells were fired within an hour, sources said.

Further details are not known, sources said.
