Peace prayer to be held in Kalmunai for Muthur Muslims

Peace demonstration expressing deep concern over the suffering of Muslim people in Muthur following the attack on them and also stressing the urgent need of addressing their legitimate rights and grievances is to be held on August 16th in Kalmunai, in the Amparai district in the eastern province. A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held Wednesday evening at Sainthamaruthu Jumma Mosque hall, sources said.

Moulavi S.L.M. Haniffa, President of the Eastern Province Mosques Federation (EPMF) presided the meeting. Representatives of Muslim civil organizations and other institutions attended the meeting, sources said.

Peace Demonstration and a meeting will be held on August 16 at Santhankerni public play ground. Moulavi Haniffa, President of EPMF will preside the event which will be followed by Thua Prayer, sources said

At the conclusion a Declaration on Muthur Muslim issue will be proclaimed, organizers said.

An appeal has been made by the EPMF to Muslim people in the districts of Trincomalee and Batticaloa to participate in the event in large numbers, and also to express solidarity with the Muthur Muslims by closing their business establishments, banks and schools, sources said.
