Swiss Tamils hold month long awareness program of Black July[TamilNet, Friday, 11 August 2006, 00:01 GMT]Tamil Forum Swiss, a confederation of 26 Tamil organizations in Switzerland, has been conducting a month long publicity and awareness program in different regions of Switzerland from 24 July, the remembrance day of the July Massacre in 1983, organizers said.
The program started in front of the UN office in Geneva and ends in front of the Swiss Parliament on 21st of August. Every morning, Tamils living in each of the 26 cantons, gather in a selected busy place displaying placards and photographs depicting the atrocities committed against Tamil civilians. Tamil youths issue handbills to the interested passersby in their own languages. A post card, requesting the Secretary of the EU to lift the ban on LTTE, is also issued to be signed and sent. Mr. and Mrs. Rasanayagam inaugurated the 18th day program by lighting the traditional oil lamp in State Aarau at 10.00 am, Thursday. Following this, a 2 minutes silence was observed in tribute of the people and fighters who lost their lives in the war. The 19th day program is held in Glarus, Friday.
