UN worker shot dead in Thambiluvil

Unidentified armed men shot dead a worker employed by an UN agency UNOPS in Amparai district Thursday morning around 9 a.m. at Munaiyoorkalam in Thambiluvil in Amparai district.The UN workers was identified 29 year-old P.Jestly Julian, a native of Komari and father of two children. Armed men who came in a motor bike took him from his office to a place to Munaiyoorkalam and shot him.

His body was handed over to Thirukovil hospital.

Meanwhile twenty year-old father of two children Mayuran was killed in a landmine explosion when he was on his way to collect firewood in no-man zone located in Vaddamadu jungle area. This incident took place Wednesday evening around 5.30 p.m. He succumbed to death due to injuries when he was to Special Task Force (STF) camp located in Sagamam area, according to the Thirukovil Police sources. His body was handed over to his relatives after post-mortem examination at Thirukovil hospital.
