Tamil family from Canada arrested

The Sri Lankan Police arrested a Tamil family from Canada this morning in the island's northwestern town of Puttalam, allegedly for video photographing the telecommunications tower in the area.

The three members of the family were identified as K. Sri Raghavan, Mrs. Nanthini Sri Raghavan and their son Mohan Sri Raghavan, 5.

Police sources said that had come on a holiday from Canada to Puttalam.

They said that the arrests were made as recording sensitive installations as the telecommunications tower is a security threat.

They pointed out that many telecommunication facilities in various parts of the island have been sabotaged in the recent times.

The Puttalam Police said that they are conducting inquiries.
