Pesalai Police recovers two claymore mines

Pesalai Police with the assistance of Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) Monday afternoon around 3 p.m. recovered two live claymore mines along Talaimannar road. Each claymore mine weighed about 20 kg, police said.

A tip-off led to the discovery of the mines, police sources said.

Claymore mines were hidden on the roadside were about to be detonated with remote mechanism when they were located. The mines were later deactivated by the bomb disposal squad of the security forces, police sources said.

The transport between Mannar and Talaimannar came to a halt during the cordon and search operation carried out by the security forces after the discovery of mines, sources said.
