Davis polls 87% of votes

[TamilNet, Thursday, 09 November 2006, 01:24 GMT]
Incumbent Democratic Congressman Danny Davis polled 87% of his congressional district votes to win the 7th District of Illinois seat for the House of Representatives in the US mid-term election concluded Tuesday. His Republican opponent was not successful in his attempt to use the funding controversy related to the Congressman's trip to Kilinochchi in 2005, to win favor with the voters.

With 96% of precincts reporting Davis obtained 135,461 votes compared to his opponent's 20,740.

In April 2005, Congressman Davis and his Director of Services, Mr. Danny F. Cantrell, visited Kilinochchi and met with senior leader of the Liberation Tigers.
