Mayor's funeral to be in Jaffna

TULF sources said that Jaffna Mayor Pon Sivapalan's body will be cremated in Jaffna according to his wishes contrary to earlier reports that the funeral was to take place in Colombo. They said that his wife Thavamalar had conveyed his wish. His body will be kept in his house in Siththankerni tomorrow and later at his residence in Jaffna town said sources close to the TULF in the north.

The body will be taken to the Kombayan Manal cemetery for cremation on Sunday they said. Senior members and MPs of the TULF will fly to Jaffna tomorrow for the funeral.

Pon Sivapalan was born in 1952. He was the TULF's secretary for legal affairs before being appointed Jaffna mayor upon the demise of Mrs. Sarojini Yogeswaran.
