Escaped prisoners from Kalutara re-arrested

Five prisoners who escaped from Kalutara prison Saturday early morning around 4.30 a.m. were recaptured the same day at about 1.30 p.m. by a group of police party. They had been on remand for alleged murders and robberies, sources said.

The search party took them into custody when they were hiding in a jungle area, sources said.

There were no political prisoners among the escapees, prison sources said.
