Fire fight at Omathai FDL

A member of the Liberation Tigers was killed and two Sri Lanka Army soldiers were injured and in a confrontation near Sri Lanka Army's Forward Defence Lines (FDL) in Omanthai, north of Vavuniya, around 10:10 a.m., Monday, police in the northern town said.

The soldiers searched the area after the clashes and recovered the body of the LTTE member along with T-56 assault rifle, a magazine and food stuffs, the police said,

They said the LTTE member was a attached to organization's auxiliary force.

His body was handed over to Vavuniya hospital, Monday evening, the police said.

Separately, a young man was shot dead by unidentified men at Neruyakulam in the Cheddikulam area, Sunday night, the police said.

He was identified as Arulappan Theivendran, 38, according to Cheddikulam police.

Vavuniya District Judge Mr.M.Ilancheliyan conducted an inquest in to the murder and orderd the police to hand over the body to relatives.
