Five Tamils arrested in Dehiwala detained under PTA

Sri Lanka Police arrested five Tamil civilians in a cordon and search operation conducted in Dehiwala and its coastal areas from Saturday night till dawn of Sunday. The Tamil youths who are natives of Jaffna district have been detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) and being interrogated.

Police said they were taken in for questioning as they failed to produce their identity and the purpose of their in Dehiwala.

But relatives of these youths said they were arrested even after they produced their national identity cards and other related documents to prove their identity and the purpose of their stay.
