Sri Lanka Cabinet reshuffle expected Sunday

Major cabinet reshuffle of Rajapakse government is scheduled to take place Sunday morning, presidential secretariat media unit said Saturday evening. Number of dissident parliamentarians of the main opposition United National Party (UNP) are to be offered w cabinet rank portfolios and non-cabinet minister posts in the reshuffle, sources said.

UNP dissident parliamentarians led by its former deputy leader Mr.Karu Jayasuriya is to join the government.

The prospective parliamentarians met with Sri Lanka's President Mahinda Rajapakse Saturday night and discussed their future activities after joining the government, sources said.

Political sources said the dissident group of UNP parliamentarians is expected to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) led by Mr Rajapakse before being sworn in as ministers.
