[TamilNet, Sunday, 28 January 2007, 00:10 GMT]
The body of an unidentified youth with deep cut wounds was recovered in Valikamam, in Kantharodai area in Chunnakam on Saturday. The victim was abducted earlier from some other area of the peninsula, brought to Chunnakam area by unidentified armed men in a white van at about 5:00 pm and dumped outside Kantharodai Vidyalayam, civilian sources said .The seriously injured youth was fighting for his life when the attackers left him but witnessing residents fearing for their own lives did not come forward to assist the victim.

Due to the night curfew and restrictions for the movement of the civilians imposed by the Sri Lankan Army, the youth’s remained on the road in Kantharodai through Saturday late night, local residents said.

The bodies of two other victims abducted within the past two days, one from Pannakam and another from Inuvil area in Urumpirai were also recovered with cut wounds.

The recent escalation in number of abductions of civilians in Jaffna has again created a sense of fear and helplessness among the residents.
