UK Minister arrives in Colombo

Dr Kim Howells, British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, arrived in Colombo Tuesday evening on a three day-visit. He is to visit Amparai district Wednesday morning, sources said.

The Minister will meet government and security officials in Amparai and is expected to obtain first hand information on the ground situation in the district. He is also expected to meet representatives of humanitarian and welfare agencies working in the district, sources said.

On his return he is to meet government leaders and politicians and officials in Colombo on Thursday before concluding his visit to Sri Lanka, sources said.
