Court orders further remand for Sooriyarachchi

Kaduwela Magistrate Tuesday ordered further remand till April 10 for Sripathi Sooriyarachchi, sacked minister and a parliamentarian of the Sri Lanka Freedom party (SLFP), main constituent of the United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) government, legal sources said.

Sripathi Sooriyarachchi was produced in court under tight security. A team of lawyers appeared for him when the case was taken up further hearing.

Defence counsel argued that he should be allowed on bail, as charge against him was trivial nature.

However, the court rejected the bail applicationHe was taken into custody on March 17 by the law enforcement authority on a complaint that he had misused a state vehicle after being removed from the cabinet.
