Youth's body with gunshot wounds recovered in Meesalai

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 04 April 2007, 11:43 GMT]
The body of an unidentified youth with hands bound and with several gunshot wounds was recovered in shrub jungles between Kanagampuliyadi Junction and Puthur Wednesday morning, sources in Jaffna said. Local residents said there was heavy presence of Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers in the area Tuesday night and they heard several gun shots during the night.

Residents said that the SLA soldiers conducted an intensive search operation around areas near Manthuvil along the Kanagampuliyadi Junction to Point Pedro road that passes through Kapputhu from noon Tuesday throughout late evening.

SLA soldiers blocked all traffic along the Kanagampuliyadi- Point Pedro road, including public busses during the search operation, according to residents.

Residents speculate that the youth must have been abducted Tuesday, brought to Meesalai North area and shot during Tuesday night.

Due to the curfew prevailing in the area, the body was discovered by local residents only Wednesday morning.
