Bomb blast kills 3 civilians in Vavuniyaa

Three civilians were killed in a bomb explosion Monday evening near the well in a house compound at Poonthoaddam area in Vavuniyaa, police said. One body was found inside the well and the other 50 meters from the well. The third victim succumbed to his wounds while being rushed to Vavuniyaa hospital, the police added.

Kumarasamy Sureshkumar, 32, a father of two children, Chandran Thanushan, 26 and Satheeskumar were identified as the men killed.

One of the victims had undergone a kidney operation and is from Odduchuddaan, his wife said.

Vavuniyaa police claimed the persons killed were suspected to be members of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and added that the three were killed when the bombs they were preparing to take on a planned exploded prematurely.
