SLA fires artillery from bases in North

[TamilNet, Sunday, 03 June 2007, 19:39 GMT]
Sri Lanka Army (SLA) has been firing artillery from the bases in Palaali, Vadamaraadchi and Thenmaraadchi into Liberation Tigers controlled territory from 5:30 p.m. past 10:00 p.m, sources in Jaffna said. Several civilian populated areas shook due to heavy fire at the beginning of the attacks which subsided into sporadic firing towards the middle of the night, civilian sources in Jaffna said.

Meanwhile, fishermen from Valveddiththu'rai to Point Pedro along the northern coastal areas of Jaffna Peninsula were barred from going out fishing Sunday by the SLA troopers. Fishermen who set out to fish in the morning were asked to return home, fisheries officials in Vadamaraadchi said.

Areas close to Naakarkoayil front line and Thenmaraadchi Forward Defence Line in Mukamaalai have been under tension due to artillery duels between the SLA and Liberation Tigers during the last three days.
