ICRC pays homage to slain employees[TamilNet, Monday, 04 June 2007, 21:48 GMT]The representatives of ICRC and Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) paid homage to the two employees attached to its Batticaloa officers who were abducted in Colombo on Friday evening at the Fort railway station, and later found shot dead at Kiriella, Ratnapura, 95 km southwest of Colombo on Sunday. Representatives from the Head Office of the SLRCS, Colombo, took charge of the bodies of Sinnarajah Shanmuganathan, 38, and Karthigesu Chandramohan, 28, from the Ratnapura General Hospital and kept the bodies at Jeyaratna Florists in Borella from 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. for the public viewing. The bodies are to be cremated in Batticaloa on Wednesday evening. Meanwhile, as a token of protest against the abduction and killing, the SLRCS Batticaloa branch stopped all activities until further notice. More than 5,000 volunteers suspended their services in the district, S. Vasantharajah, the District President of the SLRCS, Batticaloa, said. In the meantime, the SLRCS Head quarters in Colombo remained closed on Monday. At the premises black flags were flown, and banners were displayed condemning the killings.
