A combined cordon and search operation was conducted by the Sri Lanka forces and police in and around Nilaave'li village located along Trincomalee-Kuchchave'li road, about 11 km north of east port town. The search follows the explosion of a claymore mine targeting a vehicle carrying Sri Lanka Navy personnel Tuesday morning around 8:45 a.m. However the target was missed, police sources said.

The claymore mine was kept on the roadside of Iluppaikku'lam, a suburb in Nilaave'li village.

No one was injured in the explosion, police sources said.

Bomb disposal squad of the Sri Lanka Army rushed to the site to search for more explosives hidden in the area.
