Five Tamil civilians were arrested in Kandy Monday evening in a cordon and search operation and are being detained in Kandy police station, police sources in Kandy said. The arrested are being questioned to find out the purpose of their visit to hill country, police sources said.

Of them two are from Trincomalee and the other three are from Thelwatte, Pupuressa and Nagasthenna, sources said.

Police said they were taken into custody as they failed to prove their identity with valid documents, and failed to provide valid reason for their stay in the location.
