Tamil youth shot dead, 3 abducted in Batticaloa

Unidentified armed youths shot and killed Tuesday morning a Tamil youth near the refugee camp at 14th Colony at Ma'ndoor in Vellaave'li police division in Batticaloa district. Armed men alleged to be members of Karuna group abducted three Tamil youths from the same area Tuesday, according to sources in Batticaloa.

The youth shot dead near the refugee camp is yet to be identified, Vellaave'li police, investigating into the killing, said.

The victim's body is being kept at Batticaloa hospital for identification.

Meanwhile, three Tamil youths were seriously injured Wednesday around 2:30 a.m, in a shooting incident at Pulipaaynthakal in Batticaloa district, according to Vaazhaichcheanai police.

The youths were identified as Nayinthan Venthan, 21, of Maiyalangkachchi Vaddavaan in Vaalaichcheanai, Vaseekaran Kumar, 21, from Vaakarai in Kathirave'li and Anton, 18, from Theevuchcheanai area in Velikanthai, Vaazhaichcheanai, police said.

Ma'ndoor is located 26 km southwest and Pulipaaynthakal 27 km north of Batticaloa.
