Sinhala paramilitary child recruit commits suicide

A 16-year-old Sinhala boy, Asiri Sambath, recruited by Karuna paramilitary group in Polonnaruwa Batticaloa border village Sevenapitiya in Welikanda shot himself with a handgun seized from a Sri Lankan Police Officer-in-Charge (OIC), police sources in Welikanda said. The child recruit was being taken to the courts by the Police pursuing a complaint lodged by his parents following his behaviour change, the sources added.

Asiri Sambath grabbed the gun from the Police officer's waist and shot himself dead, according to the Police.
