Gunmen ambush Peasaalai police station

A policeman was seriously injured when six gurellia gunmen ambushed the Sri Lankan Police station in Peasaalai, situated on Mannaar - Thalai Mannaar Road Thursday evening around 7:00 p.m., Police in Mannaar said. Tension prevailed in the area as SLN troopers and the Police in the area launched a cordon and search operation after the clash.

Tension prevailed in the area as SLN troopers and the Police in the area launched a cordon and search operation after the clash. The guerillas who had taken cover inside the cemetery, opposite the Police station, clashed with the police commandos for 15 minutes and vanished from the site. The attackers armed with automatic rifles had entered the area in a three-wheeler, police sources said.
