Civilians caught in mine blast

[TamilNet, Saturday, 31 October 1998, 19:26 GMT]
Two civilians, K.Sreetharan (22), and his brother K.Karunakaran (18), were killed yesterday in an explosion in Kanakapuram in Kilinochchi, the town which was recently captured by the Liberation Tigers. It is believed either a mine or a booby-trap, left behind by the army, might have caused the explosion.

The brothers who are natives of Elephant Pass were living in 'Kengatharan Kudiyeruppu' in the Akkarayankulam.

The Liberation Tigers have warned earlier that some areas in Kilinochchi have not been cleared for mines and asked the public to not to visit these areas.

However, civilians who had fled the town have been visiting these areas to inspect their houses and property.
