Civilian shot dead in Ea'raavoor

Unidentified armed men shot dead a married man Monday at 7:30 a.m. in Ka'luva'nke'ni area in Batticaloa- Ea'raavoor Police division in Batticaloa district, sources in Batticaloa said.

The victim was identified as Markandu Krishnapillai, 37, father of three, fisherman by profession and a resident of R.D.S Road, Ka'luva'nke'ni.

The victim was visiting his sister, when armed men arriving at the scene called him out of the house, shot him dead, and fled on a motor-bike, Earaavoor police said.

The body of the victim was recovered around 12:00 noon with the assistance of Sri Lanka army (SLA) troops.

Ea'raavoor police began investigations into the shooting.
