SLA, armed group exchange fire in Meesaalai

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) road patrol squad and a group of unidentified armed men exchanged fire near Arasadi junction along Dutch Road at Meesaalai in Thenmaraadchi Tuesday around 6:00 p.m., sources in Jaffna said. The fire fight lasted for more than ten minutes. Two men, including one youth from the armed group were killed and 2 SLA soldiers were wounded, according to unconfirmed sources.

The fire fight lasted for more than ten minutes. Two men, including one youth from the armed group were killed and 2 SLA soldiers were wounded, according to unconfirmed sources. Some civilians are said to be also injured. No one, however, has been admitted to hospitals in the area. Details of the incident are sketchy due to the curfew which comes into effect at 7:00 p.m. A cordon and search operation was launched following the incident.
