Mullaiththeevu students condemn Sri Lanka aerial attacks

The students and members of the educational community in Oddusuddaan in Mullaiththeevu district demonstrated Friday condemning the atrocities against the Tamil student community perpetrated by the Sri Lankan government and its armed forces. The demonstration started in front of the Oddusuddaan Divisional Education Office around 10:00 a.m. and ended at Divisional Secretariat where memoranda to the Secretary of the United Nations and to the Government agent, Mullaiththeevu were handed over to Mrs. P. Thiyagarajah, the Administrative Officer by Miss. P. Yasotha, student of Oddusuddaan Maha Vidyalayam.

Hundreds of students, teachers and principals from Katchilaimadu Government Tamil Mixed School, Valathukarai GTMS, Tha'nduvaan GTMS, Oddusuddaan Maha Vidyalayam and Idathukarai GTMS participated in the demonstration.

Students shouted slogans condemning the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) aerial attacks that killed 54 students on 14.08.2006 in Chencholai in Mullaiththeevu, and recently on 11 July in Alampil that killed one.

Following the demonstration a public meeting was held.

N. Karunakaran, the Principal of Oddusuddaan Maha Vidyalayam presided to the meeting and K. Yogeswaran, the Principal of Valathukarai GTMS condemned the attacks and urged the student community to engage in civil activities to highlight the plight of students in the NorthEast.
