JVP to hold island wide demonstrations against rising Cost of Living

The Sinhala nationalist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), the third largest party in the parliament with 39 MPs, is to hold a series of
demonstrations in the country against the increase of cost of living
due to price increases of essential commodities, Mr.Lal Kantha, JVP parliamentarian and leader of the JVP trade union federation said.
The first demonstration and public rally will be held in Colombo on August 18, according to Lal Kantha.
The actions of the Sri Lanka Government has disproportionately burdened the poor. To register our strong protest against this, JVP has decided to hold demonstrations and meetings in all regions of Sri Lanka, Lal Kantha added.
