Verugal Murugan Temple to be sanctified

[TamilNet, Saturday, 18 August 2007, 12:40 GMT]
The historic Verugal Murugan Temple located in Eachchilampathu division in Trincomalee district is to be sanctified on the morning of August 30 to facilitate recommencement of daily poojas. Day to day religious rituals had been abandoned due to the mass displacement of the people of the area last year following offensives by the Sri Lanka security forces.

Devotees revere Verugal Murugan Temple as Sinna Kadirgaamam located on the southern border of the Trincomalee district.

Verugal River, a branch of the Mahaweli Ganga divides the districts of Trincomalee and Batticaloa.

Displaced families have been resettled in the Verugal village.

Villagers persuaded the temple management re-open the temple for worship immediately.
