Nalloor Ther festival draws large number of devotees[TamilNet, Monday, 10 September 2007, 10:05 GMT]More than ten thousand devotees attended the Ther (Car) festival Monday conducted at the historic Nalloor Kanthasuvamy Temple. The absence of curfew Sunday night enabled devotees from different parts of Jaffna peninsula to participate in the festival. However, temple administrators said the number of devotees attending the festival was far less than what the festival draws during peace time. The temple environs were free of Sri Lanka Army (SLA) presence and devotees were able to freely participate in the festival. Volunteer students from local schools provided logistics support during the day . SLA Military head quarters in Palaali had earlier announced the lifting of curfew in the peninsula on Sunday and Monday nights.
