Paramilitary contact gunned down in Ampaa'rai

Two armed men, riding in bicycles, gunned down a 24-year-old youth, Piradeepan Sivasara, on Veeramuani Pi'l'laiyaar temple road Friday around 10:25 a.m., Police in Chammaanthu'rai said. The victim, who had returned home from foreign employment 6 months ago, had established contacts with the TMVP (Karuna) paramilitary group in the area.

The armed men shot Piradeepan dead while he was on his way to a friend's house, residents in the area said.

Chammaanthu'rai is located 40 km south of Batticaloa city.
