Unidentified armed men on motorcycles forcibly entering into a house during curfew hours at Kalviyangkaddu in Jaffna Wednesday around 9:00 p.m opened fire on a family watching television, killing a youth and seriously injuring another youth, sources in Jaffna said.

The youth shot dead was identified as Thevarasa Satheeskumar, 18 and his relative seriously injured is N. Raveenthirakanthan, 23.

The injured youth could not be rushed to the hospital due to curfew and was admitted to Jaffna Teaching hospital Thursday early morning.

A gang of armed men arriving on motorcycles at the house at Ananathapuaram area in New Chemma’ni road in Kalviyangkaddu invaded into the house and opened rapid fire on the family watching a film on television.

The shooting during curfew hours in an area inside the Jaffna Municipal Council limits would not have gone unnoticed by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troops present in the area, residents in Kalviyankaadu said.
