Tigers, SLA clash in Jaffna

A fierce engagement was reported between the Liberation Tigers and the Sri Lankan Army (SLA) on the south-eastern coast of Jaffna between the villages of Maamunai and Naagar Kovil last evening around 6.30 p.m.

The army sustained some casualties said reliable sources in the area. The fighting lasted for almost an hour said residents in the area.

The bodies of two youth, estimated 18-20 years, were found dumped on the main street of Maamunai this morning around 6 a.m. they said.

As a consequence of the firefight last evening, a large contingent of SLA troops from the camp at Naagar Kovil moved into the coastal villages of Kudarappu, Maamunai and Maaniyawalai today on an intensive cordon and search operation.

The operation is in progress said sources.
