Anura Bandaranaike crosses over to opposition

Anura Bandaranaike, Sri Lankan Minister of National Heritage and the brother of former SL President Chandrika Kumaratunge crossed over to opposition in Sri Lanka's parliament, ahead of the final vote on budget 2008.

Mr. Bandaranaike accompanied UNP leader Ranil Wickramasinghe to the opposition side in the house, parliamentary sources said.

The second reading of the budget presented by the Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa was passed by a majority of 16 votes on November 19.

Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) leader Rauff Hakeem crossed over to the opposition with three SLMC parliamentarians on Wednesday.
