Mano Ganesan sends back his security personnel to MSD
[TamilNet, Wednesday, 02 January 2008, 13:09 GMT]
Stating that under-numbered guards from Ministerial Security Division (MSD) cannot provide meaningful security to him, the Western Province Peoples Front leader and Convener of the Civil Monitoring Commission, turned down a latest offer of increasing the security guards by three by the MSD, after the assassination of fellow Tamil parliamentarian T. Maheswaran. By slashing down the number of security personnel, the MSD is not only putting the parliamentarian's life in danger, but also endangering the lives of remaining security personnel, Mr. Mano Ganesan said in a media release. The MP has earlier said he was preparing to leave Sri Lanka.

back to Ministerial Security Division
Western Peoples Front Leader and Civil Monitoring Commission Convener Mano Ganesan MP whose security along with slain T. Maheswaran was slashed by the government two weeks before has sent his security personnel back to MSD. Ganesan addressed a letter to the DIG (MSD) Wickramasinghe which was carried by the officer in-charge of his security unit. Ganesan said in his letter that MSD waited until for an assassination to occur and even now police is risking the lives of the Members of Parliament and also of the remaining security personal of the police department assigned to him. Ganesan tells further in his letter,
‘Mr. DIG, today you have re-instated three more personnel in my security unit. This is partial re-instatement. I had totally ten members in my security unit until 18th December, 2007 since 1st December, 2006. They were on duty with a back-up jeep vehicle. Your latest move too has occurred after yesterday’s killing of my parliamentary colleague T. Maheswaran MP who also suffered due to the under provision of security. His security too was abruptly withdrawn recently’
‘I cannot accept your present move. I am very much convinced that under-numbered security cannot provide any security to me’
‘Please understand that in addition to endangerment of my security, the under provision of security endangers the lives of the remaining security officers at duty with me. In all past cases including of Nadaraja Raviraj and Maheswaran and many other assassinations, the security officers have been also killed or seriously injured while on duty. Security officers cannot perform their duty to the best of their ability unless and until fair number of security personnel with necessary equipments are provided. Therefore by this under security you are not only putting me in danger but also endangering the lives of your own men in your ministerial security division of police department’
‘My security is very crucial because next to ‘non-protection of a person under threat’ is death in this country, as what occurred yesterday, in Colombo’.
