Civilian shot, injured in Ea’raavoor

Unidentified gunmen shot and injured a middle aged man Saturday night 8:45 p.m. along Kovil road in 4th division in Kovil Thoaddam area, within Ea’raavoor police division in Batticaloa district, sources in Batticaloa said.

The shooting victim identified as Kanapathypillai Puventhiran, 50, father of three and Mason by profession, has been admitted to the Batticaloa teaching hospital.

A group of three masked men arrived at his residence, while the victim was with the family members and inquired whether LTTE cadres used to visit his house.

An altercation ensued resulting in the victim being shot at, Ea’raavoor police said.

Ea’raavoor police have commenced investigations.

Ea’raavoor is located 14 km north of Batticaloa.
