Maheswaran killing inquiry resumes

The Colombo Magistrate Mr.Ravindra Premaratne Thursday directed the police to submit the full report of the investigation into the killing of Colombo district United National Party (UNP) parliamentarian Mr.T.Maheswaran to the Attorney General without delay. The Magistrate issued the directive to Criminal Investigation Department Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. Anura Senanayake when the latter informed court that his department is in possession of vital evidence against the sole suspect in the murder and also intends to record a statement from Mr.Keheliya Rambukwella, Defense Ministry Spokesman, legal sources said.

Mr.Sujeewa Jayasinghe, a lawyer watching the interests of the deceased parliamentarian submitted to court that the police had not taken any steps to inquire into the interview to a private television given by Mr.Maheswaran about the death threat against him.

He further submitted that the relatives of the deceased parliamentarian are being harassed, legal sources said.
