Fire destroys businesses in Akkaraippatu

A pre dawn fire that began 3:00 a.m. Monday in Akkaraippattu town in Ampaa'rai district rapidly spread, completely engulfing and destroying at least 10 business establishments, sources in Ampaa'rai said.

The general public and Akkraippatu police battled the fire and were able to bring the situation under control only by 10:00 a.m.

Initial investigation revealed that the cause of the fire was electrical short, Akkaraippatu police said.
