[TamilNet, Friday, 11 December 1998, 13:01 GMT]
The budget appropriation for the Ministry of Livestock development was defeated in the Sri Lankan Parliament today during the committee stage voting. Seventeen MPs voted in favour of the ministry's budget allocation for 1999 and 34 against.

Normally the allocations are passed without voting said a government source.

The PA leadership has warned its MPs to be present in strength at times in Parliament in view of such problems the source said. But this is rarely adhered to he lamented.
