12 Tamils arrested at Gokarella, Kandy

Nine civilians, all said to be Tamils, were taken into custody on Sunday morning at Gokarella by the police when the bus they were traveling in was stopped and searched at the sentry point. Gokarella is located along Dambulla-Kurunagala road.

Police said they were being detained in the police station and are interrogated as they failed to prove their identity and give satisfactory reason for their traveling to Colombo.

Meanwhile, two plantation Tamil youths, natives of Badulla district were taken into custody in a cordon and search operation carried out in Kandy town on Saturday night.

Police said they also failed to prove their identity.
