East PC candidates to be provided with security

Sri Lanka Government is to provide two armed police personnel to each candidate contesting the Eastern Provincial Council elections to ensure the candidates' security, Deputy Inspector General of Police Gamini Navaretna, according to media sources.
Additional security is expected to be provided to selected candidates who have received death threats, he added.
Meanwhile, the number of independent groups paid their deposits to contest the East PC election has increased to nine, 3 in Trincomalee, 4 in Ampaarai and 2 in Batticaloa till noon Friday, election department sources said.
