Hakeem resigns parliamentary seat to contest EPC election[TamilNet, Wednesday, 02 April 2008, 08:33 GMT]Three key personalities of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC), Rauf Hakeem, the president of the party, Basheer Segu Dawood, the chairman and Hasan Ali, the general secretary have decided to contest the eastern provincial council election, resigning their parliamentary seats with immediate effect, SLMC spokesman Nizam Kariyappar told media. They would tender their resignation letters from parliamentary seats to the Speaker Wednesday. The SLMC is to contest EPC election in alliance with the main opposition United National Party (UNP) under the UNP election symbol "Elephant". Mr. Rauf Hakim will be the chief candidate for the Trincomalee district, Mr.Basheer Segu Dawood chief candidate for the Batticaloa district and Mr.Hasan Ali chief candidate for the Ampaa'rai district.
