A youth, who managed to escape an attempt to abduct him by a gang of armed men on motor cycles in Jaffna town in broad daylight Thursday, sought protection with Human Rights Commission (HRC) Jaffna office. HRC officials made arrangements for the youth to be placed in the protective custody in Jaffna prison through Jaffna Magistrate Court, sources in Jaffna said.

The 26-year-old youth is an employee in a restaurant in Kasthooriyaar road in Jaffna town.

A gang of eight armed men in civil dress on motor cycles attempted to abduct the youth on Kasthooriyaar road in the central part of Jaffna town, where large number of Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troopers are deployed to maintain security.
