Unidentified armed men riding a motor bicycle followed a youth and shot at him along Saagaam road within Akkaraippattu police division in Ampaa'rai district Thursday morning 10:00 a.m. and fled the scene, Akkaraippattu police said.

The victim has been identified as Paramjothy Pirakash, 21, a mason by profession and a resident of Pansala road, Akkaraippattu The seriously wounded youth was initially admitted to Akkaraippatu hospital and later transferred to Ampaa’rai hospital for emergency treatment. Pillayaan group is said to have been involved in the shooting, sources in the region said. Akkaraippattu is located 74 km south of Batticaloa.
