Schools in eastern province close to facilitate poll

All government schools in the three districts Trincomalee, Batticaloa, and Ampaarai of the eastern province will be closed on May 9 Friday and re-opened on May 12 Monday. The closure is to facilitate the Department of Elections to use most of the schools as polling stations in the east provincial election which is scheduled to be held on May 10, provincial education ministry sources said.

School heads have been instructed by the Provincial Director of Education to hand over their institutions to the Department of Elections on Friday morning, sources said.
